Box Score For the first time since joining the Landmark Conference in 2007, the Susquehanna University Men's Tennis team used a win by Ryan Seibert at No. 4 singles to clinch a victory over Drew University and earn the fourth and final spot in the Landmark Conference Tournament. The Siebert win gave the River Hawks five wins on the day and Susquehanna went on to post a 5-4 win over the Rangers Sunday afternoon on the Garrett Center Courts in Selinsgrove.
Susquehanna (9-5 Overall, 4-3 Landmark) finished fourth in the final regular season Landmark standings and will face top-seeded Goucher in the first round of the tournament Wednesday, May 2 at Goucher.
The River Hawks took a 2-1 lead over Drew (12-5, 2-4) after the three doubles matches as Alexander Dove and Nicholas Meale scored an 8-6 win at No. 2 while Alexander Cocolas and Ashton Collins won an 8-3 match at No. 3 doubles.
In singles play, Dove and Cocolas won matches at No. 2 and No. 3 with Dove coming back to win a three-set decision at No. 2. He dropped the first set 4-6 but battled back to win 6-1 and 6-2 in the second and third set to cap the win. Cocolas won 6-4 and 7-5 at No. 3.
In the second round of singles matches, Seibert used encouragement from a very supportive crowd to post a 6-1, 6-4 win for the fifth victory of the day that clinched the match and the playoff appearance.
The River Hawks will wrap up the regular season Saturday against Penn. St. Altoona before moving on to postseason play.
