Baseball Posts Victory Over Albright

Peter Yarem went 2-for-3 with four RBI including a three-run home run in the third inning and the bullpen scattered three hits over five shutout innings to secure a 9-7 victory for the Susquehanna University Baseball team over non-conference opponent Albright College Wednesday afternoon at Harry Bollinger Field in Selinsgrove.

The Lions (11-18) struck first in the top of the third inning when they plated three runs with two outs before the River Hawks (13-19) answered with three runs of their own to knot up the score.

With the bases loaded and no one out, Ben Burman plated Justin Miller with a hard singled to center field. Nick Berger followed that with a single through the left side to score Cole Luzins and Tom Giaimo.

The River Hawks doubled their run total in the bottom of the third inning to take a 6-3 lead. After hits by Lance Welsh and Cole Keating, Yarem hit a three-run homerun down the left field line to score all three runs in the inning.

Albright scored twice in the fourth and fifth innings to retake the lead at 7-6, but Susquehanna scored three times while stealing three bases in the bottom half of the fifth to take the lead for good.

Yarem knocked home Welsh (single and stolen base) on a two out RBI single for the first run of the inning. After Yarem stole second, Anthony Dombrowski hit an RBI single to give the River Hawks an 8-7 advantage. Dombrowski promptly stole second before Justin Miller knocked in the third RBI single of the inning to extend the lead to 9-7.

The bullpen shut down the Lions over the remainder of the game.

Tyson Thrush threw a shutout inning and Jack Kinney pitched three innings without relinquishing a run before Will Carey came in to nail down the save and cement the 9-7 win.

The final line on the bullpen: five innings pitched on three hits with five strikeouts and zero walks. Yarem and Welsh had two hits apiece and Luzins reached base three times after a 1-for-2 day that included two walks.

The River Hawks travel to Shenandoah tomorrow for a game at 4 p.m. before returning home for a three game series against Landmark Conference foe Drew over the weekend.
