Box Score The large Senior Day crowd received more than their money's worth Saturday afternoon as the Susquehanna University Men's Lacrosse team scored a thrilling 8-7 win in four overtimes over Drew University Saturday afternoon in a Landmark Conference game on Sassafras Field in Selinsgrove.
The win secured the regular-season first-place finish for Susquehanna (11-6 overall, 5-1 Landmark) as the River Hawks enter the Landmark Conference Tournament as the top-seeded team. Susquehanna will host Scranton at 4 p.m. Wednesday on Amos Alonzo Stagg Field in the Susquehanna stadium.
Colton Dick, Jack Donnelly and Andrew Porzio each scored in the first quarter to give the River Hawks an early 3-1 lead but Drew (3-12, 0-6) battled back and two late goals to knot the score at 3-3 after the first 15 minutes of action.
Alec Tzaneteas and Dick scored in the first five minutes of the second quarter to regain the lead for the River Hawks.
Drew battled back again at the end of the first half and scored late in the second quarter to pull within 5-4 at halftime.
In the third quarter, the Rangers took advantage of their momentum and scored twice to start the period to take a lead.
Porzio scored his second goal of the game with 1:42 remaining in the period to tie the score at 6-6.
in the fourth period, Drew took the lead with a goal early in the quarter and Jack Gerrity tied the game with seven minutes left.
The games stayed tied for the final seven minutes of regulation and each of the first three overtime sessions.
In the fourth overtime, Pierce Mead and the River Hawks won the faceoff and controlled the ball in the offensive end of the field before Dick scored his third goal to finally end the game.
Porzio led the team with five points on two goals and three assists, Dick added three points with his three goals and Donnelly recorded three points with a goal and two assists. James Tsilionis had three caused turnovers and Mead finished with eight ground balls.
Dylan Abplanalp made six saves for his 11th win of the season.
