Baseball Sweeps Doubleheader of Drew

Steve Lorenz went 2-for-3 with four RBI including a bases loaded three run triple and Bobby Grigas worked around a shaky fourth inning to pick up the 7-4 win in game 1 while Tyson Thrush threw seven strong innings and Justin Miller went 2-for-4 with two RBI in game 2 to help the Susquehanna University baseball team win 6-1 and sweep Landmark Conference opponent Drew University in a doubleheader at Harold Bollinger Field in Selinsgrove Saturday afternoon.

The Rangers (15-18 Overall, 5-9 Landmark) got on the board first in game one after scoring four runs in the top of the fourth inning on only two hits.

The River Hawks (16-19, 8-6) answered with a five spot in the bottom of the fourth inning.

After Tom Giaimo, Ben Burman and Nick Berger reached base and loaded the bases with no outs, Lorenz cleared the bases with a triple to deep right center field. With two outs, Anthony Dombrowski scored Lorenz on an RBI single and after a stolen base, Miller knocked in Dombrowski to give the River Hawks a 5-4 advantage.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, Lorenz hit an RBI single to plate Berger and Giaimo added another insurance run in the bottom of the sixth with another RBI single to score Miller.

Grigas was able to bounce back after a tough fourth inning where he temporarily lost the plate where he hit two batters and walked another. He threw a complete game and picked up the win in the 7-4 victory.

In game 2, Berger picked up the first RBI of the game on a single that brought home Cole Luzins. Luzins drove in Peter Yarem in the bottom of the fifth inning on a double down the left field line to add to the Susquehanna lead.

Leading 2-0 in the seventh inning, starter Tyson Thrush relinquished an unearned run that turned out to be the only negative mark on his day.

The River Hawk bats were able to pad the lead by scoring four runs in the bottom of the eighth inning.

Craig Roumes hit a two run single with the bases loaded and no one out to score Berger and Ryan Casey. Miller added a two run single of his own to give the team a 6-1 lead going into the ninth inning.

Will Carey worked around two singles in the top of the ninth and cemented the 6-1 victory.

Thrush struck out seven batters in seven innings while only giving up the one unearned run. Jack Kinney and Carey pitched a clean inning apiece in the victory. Lorenz and Berger each had four hits in the two games.

The River Hawks returns to Harold Bollinger field and will try to complete the series sweep on Senior Day tomorrow at noon.
