Box Score 2 Kasey Bost had hits, runs and stolen bases in each game leading the Susquehanna University Softball team to a pair of wins Saturday afternoon over Drew University in the final Landmark Conference doubleheader of the season at the Drew Softball Complex in Madison, N.J.
Susquehanna (26-10 overall, 9-3 Landmark) used the two wins to secure a tie for second place in the final Landmark Standings and will play as the third seed in the conference tournament starting Friday afternoon at Moravian.
The River Hawks took a 3-0 lead in the opener and finished off a 3-1 win as Drew (10-24, 1-10) scored its only run of the day in the fifth inning. Susquehanna pounded out nine hits and recorded 10 stolen bases in a 5-0 win in the nightcap.
Heather Pearson led off the first game with a solo home run to open the scoring for the River Hawks. In the fourth inning, Jackie Gore singled to score Bost and Kelly Miller followed with a double to left field that chased Gore in for the 3-0 lead.
In the opener, Bost, Pearson and Gore were each 1-for-3 with a run scored.
In the second game of the twin bill, Bost broke a scoreless tie in the fourth inning when she singled to start the inning, stole second and came home on a Leigh Ann Greenwald. After Gore walked and both her and Greenwald stole bases, Miller singled to center field to score Greenwald for a 2-0 Susquehanna lead.
Bost scored again in the fourth inning with an unearned run after stealing third and advancing home on a throwing error.
The River Hawks capped the scoring in the sixth inning as Bost singled to score pinch runner Holly Young and Pearson for the 5-0 lead.
Bost finished the day 3-for-7 with three runs scored, two runs batted in and four stolen bases.
Alexa Gonzalez won her 12th game of the season in the opener while Brooke Wiarda and Gabby Bubba combined for the shutout in game two. The win was the fourth straight for Wiarda.
Susquehanna returns to action Sunday with a doubleheader at Stevens Tech that was added to the schedule late in the week and will play at Gettysburg Tuesday before starting Landmark Conference play Friday.
