Box Score 2 Emilie Boman was a perfect 6-for-6 with three runs scored, four runs batted in and two walks as the Susquehanna University Softball team scored a pair of wins over Messiah College Thursday afternoon on Sassafras Field in Selinsgrove.
The River Hawks (12-6) won their sixth and seventh games in a row with a 7-5 win in the opener followed by a 5-4 comeback win in the nightcap. Messiah (13-11) had a late rally fall short in the opener and then scored the first four runs of game two but surrendered five runs in the first three innings before Gabby Bubba came on in relief to post her fourth save of the season.
Susquehanna took an early lead in game one with three runs on two hits, an error and three walks in the first inning. Boman's run-scoring single in the second inning extended the Susquehanna lead to 4-0.
Messiah rallied for a pair of runs in the top of the fourth to cut the lead in half but Boman hit a bases loaded single to score one run and two batters later, Jackie Gore hit a hard single that scored two more runners as the River Hawks took a 7-2 lead.
The Falcons hit a pair of doubles and a single in the top of the seventh inning for three runs to trim the lead to 7-5 before Bubba came on to earn the save as she retired two of the next four batters.
In game two, Messiah came out firing and scored four times in the top of the first inning to take an early lead.
Susquehanna answered with two runs in the bottom of the first as Boman doubled to score the first runner and then came around to score the second run on a Leigh Ann Greenwald single.
In the second inning, the River Hawks tied the game as Brooke Kohler connected on a two-out run-scoring single and Boman followed with single up the middle to score Heather Pearson with the tying run.
In the third inning, Pearson was hit by pitch with the bases loaded to force home the go-ahead run.
Bubba came on to pitch in the fifth inning and after surrendering a leadoff single, retired the next nine consecutive batters for another save.
On the day, Boman was 6-for-6 and Kohler finished 4-for-6.
The River Hawks return to Landmark Conference play Saturday at Moravian.
