Two Milestones Passed as Men's Lacrosse Breezes Past Catholic

Box Score

Andrew Porzio scored four goals and added an assist for five points to reach the 100-career point milestone as the Susquehanna University Men's Lacrosse team downed Catholic University 15-6 Friday afternoon at Cardinal Stadium in Washington, D.C.

Porzio becomes the 12th player in school history and second so far this year to reach the scoring milestone as Alec Tzaneteas moved past 100 points earlier this season. His four goals gives him 70 for his career which moves him into the Top-10 on the career goals list.

The win for Susquehanna (8-4 overall, 3-0 Landmark) is the fifth straight and gives Head Coach Stewart Moan 100 wins in his career at Susquehanna. His record stands at 100-79 and his overall coaching record is 265-206.

Jack Donnelly scored twice in the first quarter to give the River Hawks an early lead before Catholic (7-5, 1-2) scored to start the second quarter to tie the game at 2-2.

Porzio scored four of the next five goals including two in a span of 40 seconds and Donnelly netted his third and fourth goals of the game as Susquehanna took a commanding 8-2 lead.

The Cardinals scored a goal late in the first half and the teams went into the halftime intermission with Susquehanna holding an 8-3 advantage.

Jack Gerrity, Jake Smolokoff and Colton Dick each scored goals in the third quarter as the River Hawks surged ahead 11-3 with 3:52 left in the period.

A man-up goal in the final two minutes of the third made it an 11-4 game but Susquehanna answered with four straight goals to start the fourth quarter to seal the victory. The second goal of the quarter gave Porzio his milestone point.

Catholic was attempting to clear the ball but Donnelly and Porzio combined to force the turnover near midfield and Porzio picked up the loose ball. He raced in toward the Catholic goal and delivered a pass to his left to Dick who scored for the River Hawks. The assist was Porzio's fifth point of the day.

Catholic scored twice in the closing three minutes for the final margin of victory.

Donnelly had five goals, Porzio had five points with his four goals and Dick finished with two goals and three assists.

Dylan Abplanalp made eight saves and improved to 8-5 on the season.

The River Hawks will play Tuesday with a 4 p.m. game against Marywood on Sassafras Field in Selinsgrove. The game is the first of three straight home games for Susquehanna.
