Field Hockey Scores Early, Defeats Albright

Box Score Vivian Simone capitalized on a penalty stroke in the 16th minute and the team dominated possession and shots on goal while the defense did not allow a goal over the remainder of the game as the Susquehanna University Field Hockey team defeated Albright College 1-0 in a non-conference matchup at Sassafras Field Wednesday evening.

The River Hawks (4-5) jumped out to a solid start controlling the ball in the Lions' (3-6) zone from the opening whistle.

Simone was awarded a penalty stroke less than halfway through the first half and she tucked it away into the top left corner of the goal to cap off Susquehanna's dominating start.

Albright would not fire a shot off until there were less than five minutes remaining in the half. Emily DiGaetano was not tested until there were 32 seconds remaining in the half as she made a save to keep the score at 1-0 into halftime.

The team was unable to score in the second half, but it continued to dominate possession and turn in quality shots on goal. The defense was tested a few times at the end of the game and they were able to maintain the shutout and pull out the victory.

The River Hawks outshot the Lions 19-6. The team took eight penalty corners to Albright's seven. DiGaetano had three saves in net.

Susquehanna continues Landmark Conference play Saturday when they take on Moravian at 4 p.m. at Sassafras Field.
