Five Score in Double Figures as Men’s Basketball Routs Goucher

Box Score Zach Knecht and Matt LaCorte scored 16 and 15 points respectively, Bryce Butler notched a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds and two other River Hawks scored in double figures as the Susquehanna University Men's Basketball team won for the seventh time in eight games with an 89-63 victory over Goucher College Saturday afternoon.

How It Happened
  • The River Hawks (9-4 Overall, 2-0 Landmark) started strong and led 10-2 just two minutes into the game with Butler nailing two three-pointers over that stretch.
  • The Gophers (3-10, 0-2) fought back and eventually tied the game at 15, but Freshmen Dominic Dunn and Lukas Yurasits made consecutive buckets to give the team the lead for good. Back-to-back three-pointers by LaCorte extended the lead to double digits and the River Hawks were able to carry a 41-30 lead into the locker room.
  • A similar trend all season, Susquehanna came out scorching hot in the second half, outscoring the Gophers 16-3 to put the game out of reach early. Seth Callahan made a tough three-point play and Knecht began to take control down low.
  • The remainder of the game saw the lead hover around 20 points, with several River Hawks stepping up and hitting shots. Dan Frauenheim and Yurasits continued to keep the pressure on, making key buckets whenever Goucher would try to creep back into the game.
  • Stuart McAvoy, John Long, Mike Kempski, Wes Simons and Jordan Harnum all netted points in the closing minutes to seal the 89-63 victory.

Inside the Box Score
  • Knecht and LaCorte combined to shoot 13-for-17 from the field in their leading scoring efforts. LaCorte went 3-for-4 from beyond the arc and Knecht scored all of his points inside the paint.
  • Butler dominated on the backboards, collecting 12 rebounds to go along with 11 points. Susquehanna outrebounded Goucher 44-29.
  • Yurasits (11 points) and Callahan (10 points) round out the double digit scorers for the River Hawks.
  • Frauenheim had nine points and four assists to go along with only one turnover.
  • Balanced scoring remained the story, as 14 different players netted points in the victory.
  • Dwayne Morton and Pat Goralski led the way for Goucher with 18 and 16 points respectively.
