No. 19 Catholic Rallies for 3-2 Landmark Win over Susquehanna Men’s Soccer

Box Score WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Susquehanna University men's soccer team gave up a 1-0 halftime lead in falling 3-2 to No. 19 The Catholic University of America Saturday afternoon. Juniors Chris Naiman (Lake Hopatcong, N.J./Jefferson Twp.) and Alex Bellot (Gaithersburg, Md./Wootton) both found the back of the net as Susquehanna (4-9-0, 0-3-0 LC) dropped its third straight Landmark Conference match while Catholic (12-1-1, 3-0-0 LC) stretched its unbeaten streak to 13.

How It Happened
  • Naiman used his team-leading fifth goal of the season to give Susquehanna an early 1-0 lead with an unassisted score in the ninth minute.
  • Senior goalkeeper Matt Ellingworth (Sparta, N.J./Lenape Valley) then went to work as Ellingworth collected a season-best nine saves in the first half on 15 shots faced to keep the Cardinals off the scoreboard.
  • Ten minutes into the second half, Bradley Pierro converted a penalty kick for Catholic and knotted the game at 1-1 at 55:10.
  • Just over five minutes later, the Cardinals struck again for their first lead of the game as Ben Alexander connected on his eighth goal of the season off an assist by Darius Siahpoosh.
  • Bellot netted an equalizer for the River Hawks in the 80th minute as he scored on a penalty kick.
  • Siahpoosh scored one of his own at 81:32 off a feed from Connor Logsdon to give Catholic a 3-2 advantage.
  • SU earned two more corner kicks and fired off a wide shot but were unable to find the back of net before time expired.

  • Catholic dominated shots, 24-7 (13-3 SOG), but the River Hawks posted a 4-3 corner kick margin.
