SELINSGROVE, Pa. – In a battle of the Landmark Conference's top-two teams, the Susquehanna University women's soccer team came out on top Saturday afternoon. Sophomore forward Anna Werner (Mohnton, Pa./Mifflin) netted the game-winning goal in the 85th minute, lifting Susquehanna (8-2-1, 2-0-0 LC) to a 3-2 win over Moravian College (6-4-0, 1-1-0 LC).

How It Happened
  • The River Hawks struck first at 13:30 as senior midfielder Katie Beluch (Voorhees, N.J./Eastern) finished off a cross from the left side off the foot of sophomore forward Sam Chillis (Danville, Pa./Danville Area).
  • Susquehanna's 1-0 lead stood through halftime and the first eight minutes of the second half when Paige Weiss headed in Megan Chesney's corner kick at 53:01.
  • Fifty-four minutes later, the Greyhounds found themselves a woman-down when Juliana Caranci was given a red card.
  • Despite being a woman-down, Moravian staked a 2-1 lead at 56:42 when Sara Cassel's free kick hit off the far post and bounced in for her third goal of the season.
  • Werner's first goal of the afternoon was a penalty kick in the 77th minute to knot the contest at 2-2.
  • Senior captain Jenny Charles (Nazareth, Pa./Nazareth) then set up Werner in front of the left post for the eventual game-winner.
  • The Greyhounds continued their attack as Cassel fired off another shot in the 87th minute which junior captain Madi Welliver (Turbotville, Pa./Warrior Run) handled. Moravian then earned a corner kick in the 89th minute but nothing came of it.
