Men’s Basketball Downs Bethany in Strong Start to the Season

BETHANY, WV. - Zachary Knecht (Parkland, Fl. / Stoneman Douglas) scored a team high 13 points going 5 for 7 in field goal attempts and shooting 3 for 3 from the free throw line as Susquehanna Men's Basketball takes down Bethany College 90-47 in their season opener.  

How It Happened
  • Susquehanna took an early 7-0 lead as three different River Hawks scored just three minutes into the game. Bethany scored their first points only after calling a time out.
  • The River Hawks continued their dominance as they finished out the first half with 45 points to the Bison's 16. SU was led in the first half by Jack Van Syckle (Bel Air, Md. / C. Milton Wright) with nine points and Knecht and Thomas Sampson (West Deptford, Nj. / West Deptford) with eight points, knocking down two 3-pointers.
  • Bethany was the first team to score in the second half just 10 seconds into play as Dalton Hamrock made a lay up to make the score 45-18.
  • Both teams were back-and-forth in the second half that ended in favor of the River Hawks despite Bethany putting up a 31-point second half.
  • Bryce Butler (Abingdon, Md. / Suffield Academy) lead SU in the second half with six points on three jump shots.
  • The Bison were unable to make up for an early first half deficit and fell to the River Hawks 90-47.
 Inside the Box Score
  • Knecht lead the charge for the River Hawks with 13 points, scoring eight of them in the first half.  He also added four rebounds.
  • Dominic Dunn (Haddon Township, Nj. / Camden Catholic) and Lukas Yurasits (New York, NY. / Berkeley Carroll School) led the team in rebounds with five each while also scoring eight and seven points respectively.
  • As the team, The River Hawks were perfect at the free throw line, going 9-for-9.
  • Sampson (12 points) and Butler (10 points) round out the scorers in double figures.
  • Dalton Hamerick led the way for the Bison with 13 points.
