SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Senior captain
Rachel Sweger (Elizabethtown, Pa./Elizabethtown Area) tallied a season-best 11 points and career-high nine rebounds off the bench to help the Susquehanna University women's basketball team rally for a non-conference win Sunday afternoon. Susquehanna (4-1) posted a 78-65 victory over Lycoming College (4-2) for its fourth consecutive win and snapped the Warriors' three-game win streak in the process.
The River Hawks are enjoying their best five-game start since the 2017-18 campaign when Susquehanna tipped-off the season with a 5-1 mark.

How It Happened
First Quarter
- Lycoming struck first with a Morgan Mader three-pointer 15 seconds into the start of the game for its only lead of the first half.
- The River Hawks responded with a 9-0 run to grab the lead and establish the tempo as four different players scored in the push.
- The Warriors would get no closer than four points the rest of the quarter as Susquehanna led by as many as 10 with 14 seconds remaining and took a 22-14 lead into the second period.
- SU shot 10-of-16 (62.5%) from the field in the first 10 minutes while holding Lycoming to just 5-of-19 (14.3%), including 1-of-7 from downtown.
Second Quarter
- Sophomore guard Sadie Comfort (Pottsville, Pa./Pottsville) put the River Hawks up 29-20 at 6:56 with her only shot of the frame – a three-ball.
- Lycoming regrouped and answered back with a 21-12 run to send the game into halftime tied at 41-41. The Warriors shot 50-percent from the field, including outscoring SU, 16-4, in the paint, to get back into the game.
- The River Hawks were 5-of-7 from behind the three-point arc to keep pace with Lycoming.
- Junior guard Erin McQuillen (Cresskill, N.J./Cresskill) paced Susquehanna at the break with 12 points as McQuillen made 4-of-5 three-pointers. She also added six assists and three steals.
Third Quarter
- Back-to-back buckets by Kayla Kline gave the Warriors a five-point lead three minutes into the second half while a pair of free throws by Kenzie Reed upheld the five-point margin at 5:05 (52-47).
- Sweger then went to work as she notched seven points in SU's 13-3 run to close out the third and reclaim the lead, 60-55, heading into the final quarter.
Fourth Quarter
- Sophomore guard Amanda Lemire (Auburn, N.H./Pinkerton) scored seven points as the River Hawks opened up the fourth with an 11-4 run to distance themselves from Lycoming with a 12-point lead at 5:07.
- An Alex Jones' three-pointer with 1:12 remaining closed the gap to 71-64 but the Warriors would get no closer as Susquehanna went 7-of-8 at the free throw line.
Inside the Box Score
- The River Hawks made a season-best 30 field goals as the team finished with a 47.6-field goal percentage (30-of-63).
- Susquehanna also registered season-highs of 22 assists, 12 steals, and seven blocks.
- Lycoming was 14-of-17 from the charity stripe while edging the hosts, 44-41, on the boards.
- The River Hawks are now 37-19 all-time against Lycoming with two consecutive wins.
Top Performers
- Five River Hawks scored in double-figures with McQuillen and Lemire leading the way with 14 points each. McQuillen finished with seven assists and four steals while Lemire added four helpers and picked two pockets.
- Junior guard Nevin Hoenninger (Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) contributed 13 points, seven rebounds, six dimes, and four steals while Sweger and sophomore Amalia Esposito (Coraopolis, Pa./Montour) each had 11 points.
- Esposito also grabbed seven caroms while all of Sweger's 11 points and eight of her nine rebounds came in the second half.
- Kline, this week's Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth Player of the Week, led a trio of Warrior players with 17 points while being a rebound shy of a double-double.
