Men’s Basketball Picks Up Big Overtime Win

SELINSGROVE, Pa. - Susquehanna Men's Basketball took down Neumann University 87-83 in overtime on Saturday afternoon in an exciting back and forth contest. The River Hawks came out on top behind double digit scoring from four different players.

How It Happened
  • The River Hawks and the Knights made this one exciting, going into both halftime and the end of regulation tied. Both teams went back and forth scoring baskets in a fast-paced contest.
  • The Knights put up the first points of the game on a layup by Sanoussi Abdourhamane just under two minutes into the game.
  • Zachary Knecht (Parkland, Fl. / Stoneman Douglas) answered back with a jumper to tie the game at 2. Made 3-pointers by Matt LaCorte (Westfield, Nj. / Westfield) and Danny Frauenheim (Point Pleasant Beach, Nj. / Point Pleasant Beach) pulled the River Hawks away 11-6.
  • After some missed shots by Susquehanna, the Knights were able to bring the scored to an even 32-32 going into the half.
  • Lukas Yurasits (New York, NY. / Berkeley Carroll School) led the scoring for SU in the first half with eight while Frauenheim and Thomas Sampson (West Deptford, Nj. / West Deptford) led the defense with three rebounds each.
  • It was the River Hawks who put up the first points of the second half as Sampson forced a foul for a pair of free throws.
  • SU was able to take a 50-43 led in the second half after two made 3-point shots by Bryce Butler (Abingdon, Md. / Suffield Academy) and Jay Martin (Columbia, Md. / River Hill).
  • Neumann was able to take the 71-68 lead with 11 seconds left to play after two made free throws by Haneef Vaughn.
  • The initial shot to tie the game was missed, but Knecht came up with a big offensive rebound and got the ball to Yurasits who put away the three ball to take the game into overtime.
  • The Knights were able to gain a 77-75 lead, but back-to-back three pointers by LaCorte put the game away for the River Hawks.

  • LaCorte and Frauenheim led the scoring for the River Hawks with 18 points, each followed by Knecht with 16.
  • Sampson led the defense with 8 defensive rebounds and three offensive.
  • As a team, The River Hawks went 14-16 from the free throw line and put up 30 points in the paint.
  • Yurasits (11 points) rounds out the scorers in double figures.
  • Vaughn led the way for the Knights with a triple double 27 points, 15 rebounds and 10 assists
