LaCorte, Hoagland Lead Charge in 98-89 Win Over Moravian on Senior Night

Matt LaCorte scored 22 points on 6-of-9 shooting from three point range while Tyler Hoagland scored 13 points and added six rebounds and five assists as the Susquehanna University Men's Basketball team defeated Moravian 98-89 in a fast paced contest at O.W. Houts Gymnasium in Selinsgrove. The team recognized seniors Hoagland and Seth Callahan prior to the game.

How It Happened
  • The beginning of the game saw the two sides go back and forth, with Hoagland netting the first basket for the River Hawks (16-8 Overall, 9-4 Landmark). Moravian (16-8, 9-4) would lead by three at 15-12, but two buckets by Dominic Dunn sandwiched around two free throws by Dan Frauenheim gave Susquehanna the first two possession lead of the game at 19-15.
  • The second half of the first period saw Lukas Yurasits heat up, as he hit back-to-back three pointers followed by a made layup to extend the advantage to 31-21. The remainder of the opening twenty minutes of action was extremely fast-paced, as Zach Knecht and LaCorte carried the brunt of the load for Susquehanna en route to a 57-46 lead at the break.
  • With their leading scorer on the bench in foul trouble to start the second half, the Greyhounds made a push to get back into the game, and eventually took a 65-63 lead at the 13:46 mark.
  • Following a timeout, the River Hawks were able to regroup and withstand the push by the Greyhounds. LaCorte began to heat up from beyond the arc and Hoagland added a make from long distance as well to regain the edge. Two free throws by Mike Kempski pushed it to 79-70 before a three by Bryce Butler pushed the advantage to double figures.
  • Moravian tried to make it a game once more, but a huge three by LaCorte at the 2:22 mark made it 94-85 and essentially put this one out of reach. Hoagland and Frauenheim made several free throws down the stretch and the River Hawks won a critical one, 98-89.
