Huntingdon, Pa. – Freshmen
Sadie Comfort (Pottsville, Pa./Pottsville) and
Olivia Brandt (Bethlehem, Pa./Notre Dame) both reached the double-digit plateau Saturday afternoon in the season finale for the Susquehanna University women's basketball team. A fourth-quarter slump sunk Susquehanna (6-18, 3-11 LC) in a 69-54 road loss to Juniata College (10-15, 8-6 LC) as the River Hawks wrapped up the 2018-19 campaign.
Susquehanna 54, Juniata 69
How It Happened
- Senior forward Haley Lusby (Blairstown, N.J./North Warren Regional) put SU on the scoreboard first right off the opening tip and then three-pointers from Comfort (2) and Brandt sent the River Hawks into the second quarter with an 11-9 lead.
- Juniata scored 19 of the next 29 points to stake a 28-21 advantage with 1:44 left in the first half, however, thanks to 60-percent shooting by Susquehanna, the River Hawks netted the final seven points of the half to make it a 28-28 draw at halftime.
- SU briefly regained the lead at the start of the third as sophomore forward Alanna Connolly (Whitehouse Station, N.J./Hunterdon) converted on a layup and then back-to-back triples by sophomore guard Alexa Petrozzino (East Hanover, N.J./Hanover Park) and Comfort knotted the contest for a fourth time at 36 all at 6:16. A 10-3 Eagle run put the hosts back up by seven less than three minutes later but a key three-point shot by Comfort with six seconds on the clock trimmed the deficit to three heading into the fourth.
- Juniata broke the game open with a 19-9 run to establish a double-figure margin for the final 3:27 of the game, outscoring the River Hawks, 23-11, in the fourth.
