Tyler Hoagland,
Dominic Dunn and
Dan Frauenheim each scored 15 points apiece and
Matt LaCorte added 12 points, but the No. 3 seeded Susquehanna University Men's Basketball team fell 91-73 to No. 2 Moravian Wednesday evening in Bethlehem. Moravian was red-hot to start the game and the River Hawks worked to get back into the game, but were ultimately eliminated from the playoffs.
How It Happened
- The Greyhounds (18-7) came out firing, nailing three shots from downtown before the River Hawks (16-10) got on the board on a layup by Zach Knecht.
- Moravian continued to knock down shots, and the score ballooned to 27-6 before another Susquehanna timeout. The River Hawks then began to chip away at the lead with Hoagland, Frauenheim and Dunn leading the way. A made layup by Frauenheim made it 41-30, but the team eventually headed into the locker room facing a 47-32 deficit.
- The second half saw both sides go back-and-forth, which played to the advantage of Moravian, who was content to maintain their cushion. At the 12:44 mark, a Dunn layup made the score 61-47 and a made layup by Jaden Martin cut the deficit to an even dozen.
- Unfortunately for the River Hawks, the Greyhounds were able to withstand the push and kept their advantage in double figures for the remainder of the contest. A few long passes to a streaking LaCorte, Bryce Butler and Mike Kempski were not enough and Moravian prevailed 91-73, largely on the back of their leading scorer O'Neil Holder.
Inside the Box Score
- Hoagland finished with 15 points on 6-of-11 shooting from the field. Dunn notched another double-double with 15 points and 11 rebound and Frauenheim was the third 15-point scorer of the night. He also added five assists.
- LaCorte was the fourth scorer in double figures with 12 points.
- Holder led the way for the Greyhounds with 24 points on 9-of-13 shooting.
The River Hawks finish the season with a 16-10 record, recording six more victories than the 2017-18 season. The team returns several strong newcomers and looks forward to the 2019-20 season. Hoagland finished his career with 474 assists, which has him third in program history.
