Catholic Dampens Senior Day for Susquehanna Women’s Basketball

Selinsgrove, Pa. – Sophomore guard Erin McQuillen (Cresskill, N.J./Cresskill) put up her fifth 20-point game Saturday afternoon as the Susquehanna University women's basketball team combatted The Catholic University of America on Senior Day. Susquehanna (6-16, 3-9 LC) came up short for the fourth consecutive time, falling 61-55 to Catholic (14-9, 6-6 LC) in Landmark Conference action.

Prior to the start of the game, Susquehanna honored its four seniors – team manager Caroline Mure (Holderness, N.H.), forward Haley Lusby (Blairstown, N.J./North Warren Regional), center Haley Timko (Georgetown, Del./Delmarva Christian), and guard Bailey Trell (Paxinos, Pa./Lourdes) – for their dedication to the program.

How It Happened
  • Today's action mirrored Susquehanna's first meeting with the Cardinals on January 19 down in Washington, D.C. The River Hawks once again controlled the tempo of the game for the first three quarters before another big fourth-quarter performance powered Catholic to the season series sweep.
  • SU rolled out to a 14-5 advantage in the first period behind six points from McQuillen, who knocked down a pair of triples.
  • Sophomore guard Sadie Comfort (Pottsville, Pa./Pottsville) put the River Hawks up by 12 with her second three-pointer of the day. CUA worked its deficit down to five in the final minute of the half before Timko's jumper sent Susquehanna into the locker room with a 26-19 advantage.
  • Catholic came within one point two minutes into the second half with back-to-back three-point buckets by Luca Mamula and Amanda Johnson. The River Hawks widened the gap to 38-30 on a layup by sophomore guard Nevin Hoenninger (Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) before carrying a five-point lead into the final frame of the game.
  • Mamula drained a trey to give the Cardinals their first lead since 8:20 of the first quarter. Freshman forward Olivia Brandt (Bethlehem, Pa./Notre Dame) answered back for Susquehanna to return a one-point advantage to the home team.
  • The Cardinals outscored SU, 15-8, in the final five minutes of the contest to pick up their 14th win of the season.
