Susquehanna Women's Tennis Serves up First Conference Win Since 2016

Selinsgrove, Pa. – The Susquehanna University women's tennis team snapped a 19-match skid in Landmark Conference action on Wednesday with a come-from-behind victory at the Garrett Center Tennis Courts. Susquehanna (6-7, 1-4 LC) earned a 5-4 league triumph over Juniata College (0-10, 0-5 LC) to snap a four-match in-season losing streak as the River Hawks captured the final three singles matches.

How It Happened
Doubles
  • Senior Cassey Fox (Pittsgrove, N.J./A.P. Schalick) and freshman Anna Ream (Lewistown, Pa./Mifflin County) were the only River Hawk duo to win in doubles play as the tandem posted an 8-3 victory at No. 3 doubles for their first win of the season.
  • Juniata would carry a 2-1 advantage into singles action.
 
Singles
  • Freshman Ashlynn Searer (Hummelstown, Pa./Hershey) evened up the team match at 2-2 with her 6-0, 6-2 victory at the top spot for team-leading 11th win.
  • The Eagles responded with wins at No. 3 and No. 2 singles to stake a 4-2 lead, just one team point away from potentially clinching their first Landmark win of the season.
  • Freshman Haley White (Saylorsburg, Pa.) let a little wind out of Juniata's sails with her straight-set triumph at No. 4 singles, picking up a 6-3, 6-2 win for her eighth win of the season.
  • Fox followed suit with a 6-4, 6-2 victory at the fifth spot to set the stage for junior Amy Jennings (Canandaigua, N.Y./Canandaigua) at the team match was knotted at 4-4.
  • Jennings outlasted Theresa Joson at No. 6 singles, 7-6 (9-7), 7-5 to propel the River Hawks to their first Landmark win since April 17, 2016, when SU earned a 5-4 win over Drew University. Since then, Susquehanna had lost 19 straight conference matches.
