Women’s Lacrosse Falls in Tight One to Elizabethtown to Close Season

Kathrina DeMaio scored two goals, Brooke Klair added a goal and an assist and Libby Dex made 17 saves for the Susquehanna University Women's Lacrosse team, but the River Hawks could not make a full comeback after a tough start and fell 10-8 to Elizabethtown Saturday afternoon in Selinsgrove. The team celebrated senior day prior to the contest.

How It Happened
  • The Blue Jays (6-10 Overall, 3-4 Landmark) scored the first two goals of the contest, but not until several minutes had been played. The River Hawks (7-9, 2-5) responded with a goal by Stephanie Dowling to cut the lead in half, but Elizabethtown answered with two more to make it 4-1.
  • Brooke Klair and Alison Heimer each scored unassisted goals to make the score a very manageable 4-3 at the break.
  • Kathrina DeMaio provided a spark early on in the second half as well, but four unanswered goals by the Blue Jays made it 9-4 with under 13 minutes remaining.
  • Susquehanna would then proceed to go on a 4-0 run of its own to get right back in it. Demaio (man up), Dowling, Christine Hoerman and Nicole Hauck all scored over the strong stretch.
  • With just over six minutes remaining in the contest, Elizabethtown's Kate Ziegler scored a big goal to give the Blue jays some breathing room before both defenses locked up. Neither side could muster a goal over the closing minutes and Elizabethtown escaped with a 10-8 win.
