YORK, Pa. – The Susquehanna University field hockey team lost a close game to York College (4-4) on Wednesday evening, despite a tough effort and an early lead by the River Hawks.

How It Happened
  • Dana Meehling was able to score in the fourth quarter lifting the 2-2 tie putting the Spartans ahead 3-2, Meghan Heary then scored her penalty stroke to make the final score 4-2.
  • Susquehanna was able to take the 1-0 lead in the second quarter as sophomore Samantha Banks (Dallas, Pa. / Dallas) scored her first goal of the season, unassisted.
  • The Spartans answered back just 46 seconds later to tie the game going into halftime.
  • The game remained tied after halftime, but York was able to net a goal with just three minutes remaining in the third quarter.
  • The River Hawks answered back just three minutes later after forcing a penalty corner. Junior Gabby Martin (Greenlane, Pa. / Upper Perkiomen) scored off the pass in from Sophomore Annalee Smith (Flanders, Nj. / Mount Olive) to tie the game once again.
  • York was able to score two more time to solidify the win lifting them past the River Hawks 4-2.  
 
Inside the Box Score
  • The River Hawks and the Spartans were able to force nine penalty corners each, SU was able to score off a corner.
  • The River Hawks were able to fire off seven shots (four on goal) while York put up 12 shots (10 on goal).
  • Emily DiGaetano (Havertown, Pa./Haverford) had five saves in the contest while Martin had one defensive save.
 
Top Performers
  • Banks scored her first goal of the season for the River Hawks.
  • Martin made here second defensive safe of the season while Smith picked up her second assist.
  • Heary scored her first and second goals of the season while Reese Hardman scored their first and Meehling picked up her fourth.
