Starters Carry Susquehanna Men’s Basketball to Third Straight Win

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. – All five starters scored in double digits Saturday afternoon as the Susquehanna University men's basketball team remained perfect in Landmark Conference action. Susquehanna (11-4, 4-0 LC) came out on top with an 86-74 victory over the host Elizabethtown College Blue Jays () for its third win in a row.

How It Happened
First Half
  • The first 20 minutes featured five lead changes as Elizabethtown controlled the first nine minutes of the game, including leading by as many as seven (14-7) at 15:19 thanks to a three-pointer by Wyatt Hockenberry.
  • Hockenberry knocked down a two-pointer in the paint for the Blue Jays' last lead of the contest (22-21) at 12:01 as Susquehanna used a 16-6 run, fueled by 10 points from junior captain Bryce Butler (Abingdon, Md./Suffield Academy), to take over the game and build a nine-point advantage.
  • Five points by Bryce Greene in a 32-second span helped Etown pull within four with 49 seconds until halftime; however, junior captain Matt LaCorte (Westfield, N.J./Westfield) hit his first triple of the day to send the River Hawks into the locker room with a 42-35 advantage.
 
Halftime
  • Butler led all scorers at the break with 15 points in 16 minutes on 6-of-7 shooting, including 2-of-2 from downtown.
  • As a team, Susquehanna shot 44.4-percent from the field and were 5-for-6 at the free throw line.
  • Greene paced the Blue Jays with a dozen points while the team shot 43.8-percent and posted a 21-17 rebounding edge behind seven boards from Connor Moffatt.
 
Second Half
  • Greene's layup to open the second half closed the gap to 42-37 but the River Hawks would create a double-digit separation with a 17-5 run to lead by 17 just five minutes in. LaCorte and sophomore guard Lukas Yurasits (New York, N.Y./Berkeley Carroll) combined for 13 points in the run as LaCorte scored the first five points and Yurasits capped the run with a three-ball.
  • Susquehanna maintained a double-digit advantage for a majority of the half, holding off little runs by the Blue Jays, until the hosts erased a 72-61 deficit at 5:51 and pulled within 74-73 at 2:28.
  • Elizabethtown could not complete the comeback as the River Hawks tallied 12 of the game's final 13 points by going 6-for-6 at the line, including completing a pair of and-1 plays.
 
Inside the Box Score
  • Following a 14-for-14 effort at the charity stripe in the second half, Susquehanna finished with a 95.0-free throw percentage (19-20).
  • The River Hawks turned defense into offense with 20 fast-break points and 28 points off of 19 Elizabethtown turnovers.
  • Susquehanna used a 23-18 rebounding margin in the second half to finish the game with a 41-40 edge on the boards.
  • Susquehanna now leads the all-time series with the Blue Jays, 81-66, and have won 11 straight following today's win. Elizabethtown's last win over the River Hawks was a 74-70 decision on December 1, 2013 in Elizabethtown.
 
Top Performers
  • Butler finished with a season-high 19 points on 8-of-11 shooting with two triples to go along with a season-best four steals and two rebounds.
  • Yurasits also put up 19 points as he notched a dozen in the second half. He went 7-for-7 at the line while grabbing five boards.
  • LaCorte came in with 18 points on the afternoon following an 11-point performance in the second half. He added five caroms and three steals as well.
  • Sophomore guard Danny Frauenheim (Point Pleasant Beach, N.J./Point Pleasant Beach) split his points equally between the first and second half as Frauenheim contributed 10 and dished out six assists and hauled in four rebounds.
  • Senior captain Zachary Knecht (Parkland, Fla./Stoneman Douglas) picked up all 10 of his points in the second half while leading the team with six boards.
  • Ethan DuBois led the Blue Jays with a game-high 20 points while Moffatt collected a double-double on 14 points and a game-best 13 caroms.
