SELINSGROVE, Pa. – The Susquehanna University women's basketball team took on The Catholic University of America, who received votes in both national polls this week, in Landmark Conference action Saturday afternoon. Susquehanna (11-6, 3-3 LC) could not take care of the ball and dropped its third straight, suffering a 64-52 setback to Catholic (14-3, 5-1 LC).

How It Happened
First Period
- Susquehanna began the game with a 3-0 lead behind an old-fashioned three-point play by junior guard Nevin Hoenninger (Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) and after reclaiming an 8-7 lead on a three-pointer by sophomore guard Amanda Lemire (Auburn, N.H./Pinkerton), it was all Cardinals.
- Catholic used a 12-4 run to close out the first 10 minutes and take a 19-12 lead into the second frame as Erin Thompson scored nine points on 4-of-4 shooting, including a triple.
Second Period
- The Cardinals opened up a 17-point lead with a 13-3 run as they went 7-of-10 at the free throw line.
- Susquehanna responded by notching seven of the half's final nine points to head into the locker room down 34-22.
Halftime
- Eighteen of Catholic's 34 first-half points came off of 18 River Hawk turnovers.
- Thompson led all scorers with her nine first-period points while Lemire and Comfort paced the River Hawks with five points each.
Third Period
- Catholic stretched its lead to 20 as the Cardinals shot 56.3-percent from the field. Megan Stafford led the way with six points.
- The River Hawks also shot well in the frame, connecting on 46.2-percent of their shots.
- Both sides combined to go 0-for-7 from downtown.
Fourth Period
- Susquehanna used 11 bench points, including six from junior guard Alexa Petrozzino (East Hanover, N.J./Hanover Park), who went 6-for-6 from the charity stripe, to outscore the Cardinals, 17-9, in the fourth. The River Hawks pulled within 11 but could not get any closer as time ran out.
Inside the Box Score
- The River Hawks controlled the glass with a 41-32 rebounding margin as junior forward Madi Welliver (Turbotville, Pa./Warrior Run) hauled in a season-best 10 rebounds.
- Catholic finished with 28 points off of 30 turnovers committed by Susquehanna.
- SU posted a 37.3-field goal percentage for the game while the Cardinals registered 38.3-percent.
- The damage by Catholic was minimized by its 15-for-26 effort at the free throw line.
- The Cardinals now lead the series with Susquehanna, 22-7.

- Lemire led the way for Susquehanna with nine points, two rebounds, and two steals.
- Thompson tallied a game-best 16 points to pace the Cardinals in their fourth consecutive win.
