Frauenheim, Martin Propel Susquehanna Men’s Basketball to Road Win

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Sophomore guards Danny Frauenheim (Point Pleasant Beach, N.J./Point Pleasant Beach) and Jay Martin (Columbia, Md./River Hill) combined for 39 points as the Susquehanna University men's basketball team posted their fourth straight win Wednesday night. Susquehanna (17-7, 10-3 LC) picked up a 90-67 Landmark Conference road win over Moravian College (13-11, 8-5 LC) to split the season series.
 
The River Hawks are now tied for first in the league standings with Drew University as Drew took down the University of Scranton, 73-70, tonight to break the three-way tie for first. If the season ended tonight, SU would be the No. 1 seed because the River Hawks swept Drew. Drew (10-3 LC) would be the No. 2 seed followed by third-seeded Scranton (9-4 LC) and Moravian (8-5 LC) as the fourth seed.

How It Happened
First Half
  • Moravian gained the lead early on, 5-3, on buckets by Matt O'Connor and John Hargraves and then the River Hawks caught fire.
  • Susquehanna would outscore the hosts, 32-10, over the next 11 minutes to boast a 20-point margin at 7:06. Fueling the run were seven three-pointers as sophomore guard Lukas Yurasits (New York, N.Y./Berkeley Carroll) and Martin combined for five triples.
  • Additionally, the River Hawk defense forced Moravian to commit eight turnovers and shoot 3-of-12 from the field with just one three-ball.
  • The table was flipped in the final seven minutes as the Greyhounds put together a big run of their, closing out the half by scoring 28 of the final 39 points, including hitting a triple in the final three seconds, to pull within 46-43 at halftime.
  • Moravian was led in the run by CJ Barnes' eight points as the hosts drained six three-pointers while the River Hawks went 2-of-3 from downtown and 3-for-5 at the free throw line with only three miscues to stay ahead of the Greyhounds.
 
Halftime
  • Yurasits led all scorers with 12 points on 4-of-5 shooting from distance while Martin added eight points off the bench behind a pair of three-pointers.
  • Susquehanna finished the half 10-of-15 from behind the three-point line while shooting 47.1-percent in the first 20 minutes.
  • Barnes paced Moravian with 11 points while O'Connor contributed 10 as the duo combined for five of the team's eight triples.
  • The Greyhounds shot 46.9-percent while collecting five blocks to stay in the game.
 
Second Half
  • Back-to-back threes by Moravian to open up the second half handed the Greyhounds their first lead since the 18:04 mark of the first half. The hosts would stretch the lead to five on an Addis Ralph layup at 16:55.
  • SU responded with a 22-10 run to put the Greyhounds on their heels and control the tempo the rest of the game, leading 70-63 with 7:36 remaining.
  • The River Hawks didn't slow down and led by 20 or more in the final two minutes.

  • Susquehanna maintained its average of a +22.25 margin of victory in tonight's win as the River Hawks stretched their win streak to four.
  • Martin's career-high 18 points led a 40-point performance by SU's bench.

Top Performers
  • Frauenheim paced the River Hawks in the win with his third 20-point game of the season, finishing with a game-high 21 points on 9-of-15 shooting. He also added five assists and three steals.
  • Martin's career-best 18 points came from 8-of-13 shooting with a pair of triples. He also helped Susquehanna to a 42-32 rebounding margin with a career- and game-high nine rebounds to go along with three assists and three steals.
  • Yurasits ended the night with 12 points and a career-best four steals.
  • O'Connor led a contingent of four Greyhounds in double-digit scoring with 17 points plus a game-best eight assists while Ralph chipped in 11 points, seven boards, and five blocks as Moravian saw its three-game win streak snapped.
