WILKES-BARRE, PA (October 2, 2021) -- The Susquehanna University men's tennis competed in the opening day of action from the King's College Invitational Saturday, performing well while setting up nicely for Sunday's action in play from Kirby Park.
In No. 1 singles,
Emil Vyskocil had a strong start to the weekend with a victory over Nathan Redell of Lycoming College with a score of 6-2, 6-1.
Joshua Sanderson also rolled into the No. 2 singles semifinals with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Matt McCaffery from Misericordia University.
Tim Basta was the top seed at the No. 3 singles bracket, and he turned in a 6-2, 6-0 win to move into the semifinals Sunday. At No. 5 singles,
Ethan Cooley topped Tommy Cavanagh of Penn College 6-0, 6-0 to move into the semifinals, and sophomore
Kyle Wagner bested David Cassel of Arcadia 6-0, 6-1 for a spot in the No. 6 semifinals.
Carson Barry topped Ryan Salmon 6-1, 6-1 in the No. 7 singles bracket for a spot in the semifinals. In doubles, Vyskocil and
Conor Ryan picked up an 8-4 win in the No. 1 flight to move into the semifinals, and
John Duncan and Sanderson earned an 8-0 win at No. 2.
In the No. 3 doubles flight, Basta and Cooley rolled to an 8-5 victory while Barry and Wagner teammed for an 8-0 win at the No. 4 flight. In all, 10 of 11 Susquehanna players or doubles' pairs will play in the semifinals Sunday.
Action begins at 9 a.m. for the men's tennis team Sunday from Kirby Park in the final day of play from the King's Invitational.
