Banks Late Heroics Not Enough as Field Hockey Falls in Overtime

BETHLEHEM, PA - The Susquehanna University Field Hockey fell in closely contested game to Moravian University on Saturday afternoon. Despite a late goal sending the game into overtime, the River Hawks fell to the Greyhounds in the extra period, by a final score of 3-2.

The game began with Susquehanna taking a very early lead. Sam Banks was able to penetrate the Moravian defense in the third minute and slapped home a shot after she rebounded her own shot. The score gifted the River Hawks an early lead and made the it seem like the game had Susquhanna written all over it.

However, the second quarter was all Moravian, as they tallied two goals, all from Sydney Anderson. After tying the game off a rebounded shot in the 21st minte, Anderson tapped in a shot off a Moravian penalty corner to take the lead 29 minutes into regulation.

The second half saw Susquehanna seemingly control the game offensively, but the team was unable to find the back of the net for the majority of the second half. The team attempted 13 total shots in the second half, contrasted by Moravian's one shot. Despite the clear advantage, the game tying goal was elusive.

Finally, in the 58th minute, Banks came through again. The senior tied the game, scoring her third goal of the season, as she corralled a loose ball and chipped it home. Even with all signs pointing towards the momentum being in the hands of the River Hawks, it was the Greyhounds who came out swinging in overtime.

After yellow cards put Susquehanna down a player twice in overtime, Anderson came through for Moravian, as she chipped in her third goal of the day, clinching the Moravian win.
