ASTON, PA - Leading by just one point with 3:31 left in regulation, the River Hawks finished the game on a 13-5 run, downing Neumann University in non-conference road matchup.
Danny Frauenheim led the way offensively for Susquehanna, as he lead the team with 17 points on 6-7 shooting, also adding three three-pointers in the win.
The first half saw several swings in scoring differential, as the Knights built an early lead as high as seven points and the River Hawks led by ten points with five minutes to go in the first half. With 5:26 remaining in the first half,
Jack Van Syckle made a shot in the paint to put his team up 26-16. Neumann was able to respond promptly, rattling off 15-6 run, highlighted by a Justin Smith dunk, making the halftime score 32-31 in favor the River Hawks.
At the half, the Knights held a slight advantage in FG% as they made 12-30 shots while Susquehanna was 13-37 from the field and 6-18 from downtown. Neumann did not attempt a single three pointer over the first 20 minutes and were 7-10 from the line.
The second half was close throughout, as no team would gain a three possession lead until the tail end of regulation. With Susquehanna leading by just a point with 3:31 left in the half,
Dominic Dunn pushed the lead to three with a jumper and
Cooper Haberern picked up a steal and lay-in put the score at 68-63. After a missed FT from the Knights, Frauenheim knocked down a jump shot, pushing the lead to seven. After a layup from Neumann, Frauenheim put the nail in the coffin, draining a three-point shot with just over a minute left in regulation. Dunn and Frauenheim each drained a pair of free throws down the stretch, sealing the win for the River Hawks.
Each team shot over 50% in the second half, but Susquehanna made two more field goals and three more three-pointers over the final 20 minutes of regulation. Overall, Neumann shot 48.2 % from the floor to the River Hawks 43.5%, and out rebounded SU 37-33. Susquehanna finished the game with nine three pointers, while Neumann attempted zero over the entire game. The River Hawks also posted 20 points off turnovers, turning defense into offense, while the bench contributed 21 points to the team win.
Dunn and
Lukas Yurasits each scored 16 points, with Dunn adding four three-pointers and seven rebounds, and Yurasits shooting 6-12 from the field. Haberern was the top Susquehanna scorer off the bench, posting eight points while also grabbing a team and career high eight rebounds. Van Syckle added six points off the bench and
Jay Martin posted seven points.
