SELINSGROVE, Pa. – The Susquehanna University men's tennis team posted another dominant victory in back-to-back matches as Susquehanna (4-2, 3-2 LC) downed the visiting Moravian College Greyhounds (4-4, 2-4 LC), 8-1, Sunday afternoon on Senior Day.
At the end of the match, the team's lone senior and captain,
Ian Reish (Mifflinburg, Pa./Mifflinburg Area) was recognized and honored for his four years of dedication to the program.
How It Happened
Doubles
The River Hawks dropped only four games in taking No. 2 and No. 3 doubles for a 2-0 advantage. Junior
Ethan Cooley (Califon, N.J./Voorhees) and first-year
Tim Basta (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown West) continued their undefeated streak, moving to 6-0 (5-0 LC) on the season with their 8-3 victory at No. 3 doubles.
Junior
Emil Vyskocil (Cornwall-on-Hudson, N.Y./Cornwall) and sophomore
Conor Ryan (Bloomsburg, Pa./Central Columbia) put in a hard-fought battle at No. 1 doubles, coming away with an 8-6 triumph to send Susquehanna into singles action with a 3-0 lead.
Singles
Vyskocil and
Duncan each only lost two games in taking No. 1 and No. 3 singles, respectively, to clinch the match win for the River Hawks at 5-0. It was the second straight singles win for both with
Duncan improving to 5-1 (4-1 LC) on the season.
Sophomore
Joshua Sanderson (Mount Wolf, Pa./Northeastern) at No. 2 singles, first-year
Kyle Wagner (Milton, Pa./Milton Area) at No. 6 singles, and first-year
Alex Baker (Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) at No. 5 singles were all victorious as well.
Wagner and
Baker both stayed perfect on the season with
Wagner pushing his record to 5-0 (4-0 LC) and
Baker improving to 3-0 (3-0 LC).
Moravian's lone point came at the end as sophomore
Andrew Hozza won 6-1, 6-2 at No. 4 singles.
