WESTMINSTER, MD (September 22, 2021) -- The Susquehanna University women's volleyball team had no issues Wednesday night on the road at McDaniel College, rolling to a 3-0 victory in non-conference play from the Gill Center.
The offense was clicking for the River Hawks (6-4) Wednesday, as the squad hammered down 39 kills while hitting .309 for the match. The opening set though was nip and tuck throughout with the match being tied as late as 17-17 after an ace by McDaniel's Allyson Burgee.
SU would rattle off four straight points including kills from
Rosina Esposito and
Amanda Gore to take a 21-17 lead and force a McDaniel (4-6) timeout. After the Green Terror earned two points, Susquehanna rattled off four of the next five to take the set with
Riley O'Dowd putting the exclamation on the set with a kill.
In the second set, the River Hawks offensive unit continued to click hitting .357 for the stanza, posting 15 kills on 28 swings. Even though McDaniel also was strong with a .304 hitting percentage, SU was too strong pulling away with the final five points of the set for a 2-0 match advantage.
The third set was all Susquehanna, jumping out to a 12-2 lead thanks to strong defensive work from
Brooke LaCesa. Leading 14-5, SU went on a 6-0 run followed another 3-0 spurt to cruise to the sweep victory.
O'Dowd was the leading hitter for the River Hawks Wednesday, as she finished with 11 kills on 17 attempts while hitting .529 for the match. Gore added eight terminations on just 12 attacks, while Esposito also tallied eight kills and four digs.
Madison Rockey finished with five kills in addition to 25 assists and six digs, and
Megan Nelson tallied a team-leading 10 digs as well.
Ryan Rorls was strong defensively with seven digs, and
Lizzie Herestofa tallied five digs and four helpers in the win.
Other Notes
- Susquehanna held a decided edge in hitting against McDaniel, posting a .309-.089 edge offensively.
- SU also posted 50 total points to just 26 from the hosts.
- The River Hawks own a seven-match winning streak over McDaniel, dating back to 2008.

- The River Hawks will head west to take part in the Carnegie Mellon University Quad Friday and Saturday. SU will battle CMU, Westminster College and Mount Union College over the two-day event.
