Koch's Goal in the Final Period Downs #14 Captains

Selinsgrove, Pa.Katie Koch (West Milton, Pa./Lewisburg Area) slapped in a goal in the 49th minute during the final period of Susquehanna's game against the Christopher Newport Captains, eventually securing the first win of the season. The River Hawk's looked strong against the national ranked Captains, who are currently the National Field Hockey Coaches Association's (NFHCA) #14 ranked team. The Susquehanna defense held strong throughout the matchup despite the Captains outshooting SU and being awarded more penalty corners.

Mackenzie Bross (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) was outstanding in goal for the River Hawks on Saturday, collecting six saves in net, including some impressive stands form an aggressive Christopher Newport attack. In the 19th minute, Bross saved three shots in row to keep the game scoreless. She also made a save in the 59th minute, keeping the Captians off the board in the waning moments.

Overall, the Captains outshot the Hawks 7-5 with six of those shots being on target. Susquehanna had only one shot on goal the entire game, as Koch knocked in her first goal of the season assisted by Kelsey Murray (Woodbine, MD/Howard) and Rebecca Ripans (Newtown,PA/Council Rock North High School).

Other Notes
  • Christopher Newport had the advantage in penalty corners at 10-6. However they were not able to convert any of those opportunities into goals, while Susquehanna was able to convert their lone 4th period corner into the game's only goal.
