SELINSGROVE, PA (October 1, 2022) – Susquehanna Field Hockey took the turf at Sassafras Field on Saturday afternoon on a four-game winning streak, yet none of them had come at home. In fact, none of their wins in the 2022 season had come in Selinsgrove. That changed as the River Hawks took a 2-0 victory over visiting Landmark Conference opponent Moravian University.

The offense came slowly at the start for SU, with just two shots in the waning moments of the first quarter, while Moravian had none at all. The chances kept coming for Susquehanna into the second period and they would finally make them pay five minutes in as Ashley Schreffler scored her first goal of the season and gave the River Hawks the lead. Moravian would respond with their first two shots of the game, both of which required saves from River Hawk goalkeeper Mackenzie Bross.

The third period saw SU again control proceedings, as they tallied seven shots while again blanking Moravian for the period. The insurance goal for Susquehanna came late in the period, as after they strung together two shots and two penalty corners, converting on the second penalty corner as Kari Schmidt got hold of the insertion before pushing it in to Sophia Prata, who slotted it home for her fifth goal of the campaign.

The lead was threatened in a couple instances in the final period of the game, as Moravian earned a penalty stroke in the first minute of the fourth, but a brilliant save from Bross kept the Greyhounds scoreless. They hit the post on a penalty corner chance a few minutes later, but again couldn't quite make the chance pay and Susquehanna held on to the shutout.

Having now conquered their home turf duck, Susquehanna look to be in great position to carry momentum into the second half of their season. 8-3 overall and 2-0 in the Landmark, their next match will take them back on the road to face Alvernia University on Tuesday, October 4 at 7 pm, with a chance to continue their win streak. Their next conference match brings them back home on Saturday, October 8, as they'll host Goucher College at 1 pm.
