Volleyball Unable to See Out Lead In First Match Of Texas Trip, Fall 3-2 Against NWU

SAN ANTONIO, TX (October 14, 2022) – Susquehanna volleyball began their weekend in Texas with a loss against Nebraska Wesleyan University, falling 3-2 in a tough battle.

The River Hawks would prove to be their own worst enemies in match, topping NWU in most offensive categories but undermining themselves with unforced errors. SU had 13 service errors, with many coming at pivotal junctions in the match. NWU had just four in comparison. Hitting errors also went against Susquehanna, with the team totaling 33 compared to 25 for NWU. While the kills would be 60-44 in Susquehanna's favor, that would still prove to be undone by the mistakes.

The River Hawks had plenty of strong individual performances, with three players reaching double digit kills. Ryan Rorls led with 17, but also committed 13 errors and finished with just a .087 hitting percentage. She added a block assist and a dig. Amanda Gore was a standout for SU and the most efficient on offense, putting up 14 kills from her middle blocker position with a .423 hitting percentage, with two block assists and a dig as well. Emily Kowalski was the third player in double digits with 10, but also hit just .136. She rounded out her night with four block assists, three digs, and two assists.

The River Hawks did have a strong day at the net, with Kody Dillon producing a massive total of four solo blocks and five block assists. She added nine kills, two digs, a service ace, and an assist. Sophomore setter Keira Roach tallied a career-high assist total of 49, while senior Lexie Kalligonis had her own career high, putting up 36 digs.

Despite all of those strong individual performances, NWU managed to hang around in every set, taking a close win in set one before surging back after dropping the next two sets, hitting a match-high .296 hitting percentage in set four and .261 in set five.

Susquehanna will hope to rebound tomorrow and return to winning ways after seeing a five-match win streak snapped with tonight's loss. They face tough opposition though, facing UC-Santa Cruz at noon, who have received votes in every iteration of the AVCA DIII Top 25 Poll since the start of the season. They'll finish the day at 4 pm with a marquee matchup against hosts Trinity University, who are 2nd-ranked in the country and have not dropped out of the top five all season.
