GETTYSBURG, PA (October 15, 2022) – Susquehanna football returned to action after a bye last week and picked up where they left off, taking their sixth consecutive victory and remaining undefeated on the season. Visiting Centennial Conference opponent Gettysburg College, the River Hawks took a 41-7 victory over the Bullets.
The game started with Susquehanna driving into Gettysburg territory before stalling on the 25 and kicking a field goal. However, the make would be cancelled out by an illegal formation penalty and the second attempt would not go to plan. Gettysburg blocked the kick from the 30 and would return the ball 52 yards before being pushed out at the Susquehanna 3-yard line.
The Bullets would capitalize on the prime field position and complete a 4-yard pass for a touchdown to start the scoring. Susquehanna would respond with a five-minute scoring drive, propelled by four completions from quarterback Michael Ruisch and five rushes from running back D.K. Wyche, including a 3-yarder to punch in a touchdown and tie the game at 7-7.
From there, the River Hawks would take control of the game, scoring all of the remaining points on the day. A 43-yard touchdown run from Hunter Coulter gave Susquehanna the lead late in the first quarter, before Ruisch threw his only touchdown pass of the day, an 11-yarder to Kyle Howes to make the score 21-7 at halftime.
Coulter got the scoring going again in the 3rd quarter with a 1-yard touchdown run to get his second of the day. Wyche would get his own second touchdown early in the 4th quarter, punching in a 5-yard run. The final touchdown came late in the fourth quarter as the second-string offense came out and executed a drive led by Brayden Knoblauch, culminating in a 51-yard pass across the middle to tight end Rowen Hershey, who took it all the way to the house and put the score at 41-7, which proved to be the final score.
The SU defense and special teams would again prove to be stalwart in the game, forcing two fumbles in the game while also blocking two Gettysburg kicks, both courtesy of junior Jake Schultes.
Now 6-0 overall and 5-0 in the Centennial, Susquehanna will play their second consecutive road game next weekend on Saturday, October 22, traveling to face McDaniel College and kicking off at 1 pm.
