SELINSGROVE, PA (October 26, 2022) – Taking the field for the final home match of their 2022 season, the Susquehanna men's soccer team welcomed non-conference opponent Marywood University on Wednesday evening. In one of their best performances of the year, the River Hawks earned their second victory of the season with a 3-0 win over the Pacers.
SU wasted no time in getting onto the scoresheet, with the very first shot of the game producing a goal. A well-placed ball into the box from the right side by TJ Grube landed easily onto the foot of Max Paczewski, who guided it home for the goal and tallied his third of the season, taking sole possession of the team lead in goals.
The play would continue to be open, as Susquehanna produced nine shots in just the first half and quickly doubled their advantage just a few minutes after the opener. In the 15th minute, another beautifully weighted ball over the top came to the feet of Adrian Dilascio, who took his own opportunity to place a simple finish and score the second goal of both the match and his second goal of the season.
The River Hawks continued to look threatening into the second half after carrying the 2-0 lead to halftime, but the final tally would be a last-minute opportunity through a corner kick. Possessing the ball for much of the latter half of the game and looking to keep the ball away from their own half, SU earned a corner kick in the final minute of play and as the seconds ticked down toward zero, Walter Wyatt whipped in a brilliant ball that found the head of first-year Calvin Paulick, who made no mistake in steering it home and registering the first goal of his collegiate career.
Another first-year earned a big milestone, as goalkeeper Tony Burns earned the start and his first victory in the match, with it being a shutout for good measure. He would only be forced to make three saves in the match but provided steady play from the back.
The season finale for Susquehanna will take them on the road, travelling to face Landmark opponent Drew University on Saturday, October 29 at 1 pm. They'll hope to put together one final win and build some positive momentum as they head into the offseason and begin preparations for next year's campaign.
