Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

SU Dealt Loss on the Road by Stevens

HOBOKEN, NJ (December 10, 2022) – The Susquehanna women's basketball team traveled to New Jersey on Saturday evening to face Stevens in a non-conference matchup. The Ducks would play poor hosts, sending SU back to Selinsgrove with a 71-38 loss.

Stevens jumped out to an 11-2 advantage after just over four minutes, but Susquehanna would respond with what ultimately proved to be their best offensive stretch, scoring nine unanswered points through two threes made by Kenzie Selvaggi and another from Kaitlyn Lynch. That would be the last time the Ducks were not in the lead, as they resumed scoring at the 3:56 mark and did not look back, responding with a 7-point run into the end of the quarter to lead 22-13.

That continued into the second quarter and translated into dominance as Stevens outscored SU 21 to 7 in the second quarter to take a 23-point lead into halftime. Susquehanna would improve their numbers with 12 points in the third quarter, but Stevens kept up and scored 14, seeing the lead only continue to grow. The shooting struggles ultimately handicapped the River Hawks in building any momentum to cut into the deficit, as they shot 24.2 percent in the game with the number going down in each quarter.

Selvaggi managed to reach double-digits in scoring, the only River Hawk to do so. She scored 13 points and grabbed three rebounds. Lynch had seven points and matched Selvaggi with three boards. Isabella Schwabe would lead the team in rebounding with 10, a season-high for the senior forward. First-year Julia Pinckert had a quiet scoring night with four points but managed the second-highest rebounds total with six and led the team in assists with five.

Now 3-6 on the season, SU will get nine days to prepare for their next contest, which will see them cover hundreds of miles to participate in the Puerto Rico Clasico, where they'll play two games in San Juan, Puerto Rico. They'll begin with a game against Concordia University (Wis.) on Monday, December 19 at 5:00 PM Eastern, before returning to action the next day to face The College of New Jersey at 10:00 AM Eastern.
