TOWSON, MD - Susquehanna shot 80% from the field in the second half, as the team clinched the regular season title in the Landmark Conference with a 74-55 win over Goucher. The team won the title two years ago and sat out last season due to COVID-19 concerns, marking their second-consecutive title. The second half saw the River Hawks put up 41 points on a scalding hot mark of 16-20 from the floor. The team was also 5-6 from three, only struggling at the line in the half going 4-9.
The offense was once against fueled by the Susquehanna backcourt as
Danny Frauenheim was the game's leading scorer with 14 points on 5-9 shooting.
Lukas Yurasits was perfect from the field on four shots for 12 points, and
Jay Martin contributed 12 points and six rebounds off the bench.
The first half was fairly close throughout as the Gophers had some hot shooting from outside against the Susquehanna zone, hitting multiple threes just before the shot clock buzzer. Trailing by one with just over two minutes left in the half, a
Cooper Haberern three gave Susquehanna the lead, one that they would not relinquish for the rest of the game. Free throws from Frauenheim and Yurasits just before the end of the half gave SU a four-point advantage heading into the final 20 minutes of action.
In an eerily similar fashion to Wednesday's win against Moravian, the River Hawks came out on absolute fire to start the second half on both ends of the floor. The team scored 15 unanswered to open the half before Goucher finally got on the board in the second half with 13:22 left in the game. A layup by Martin at the 5:04 mark gave SU their largest lead of the game at 32 points, capping off what was a 37-9 run over the first 14:54 of the second half. Goucher ended the game on a 17-4 run to cut the final deficit to 19, but the damage had already been done.
Susquehanna got some strong contributions from their bench as Howie Rankine finished with nine points, while Haberern continued his hot shooting with two three point makes and six rebounds. The first-year Haberern posted eight points on 3-3 shooting and has made at least two threes in six consecutive games, shooting 13-22 from deep in that span.
The River Hawks extended their season long win streak to nine games on Saturday, the longest since a 10 game win streak in the 2016-2017 season, when Susquehanna advanced to the Sweet 16. Susquehanna will now host at least one home playoff game and would host the championship if the team were to win their Landmark Semifinal matchup.
