SCRANTON, PA (February 16, 2022) -- Senior point guard
Amanda Lemire poured in a team-high 11 points but it wasn't enough as the Susquehanna University women's basketball team dropped a Landmark Conference battle with No. 17 University of Scranton 69-41 Wednesday evening in play from the John Long Center in Scranton, PA.
Lemire went 4-of-8 from the floor on the night, making three of her five shots from deep, but was the only River Hawk (12-11, 4-9 Landmark) to get into double figures on the night.
The story of the game was the hot start for the host Lady Royals (22-2, 13-0 Landmark), who outscored SU 25-2 in the opening 10 minutes of the game. Junior
Kaitlyn Lynch hit a bucket to open the contest's scoring, but the Lady Royals rattled off 28 straight before Lemire connected on a three-pointer at 9:04 of the second quarter. Junior
Isabella Schwabe netted a nice high-low finish on the next possession for SU, but Scranton pushed its lead up to 31 before taking a 40-12 edge into the halftime break.
In the fourth quarter, Susquehanna battled and got the Lady Royal advantage down to 23 twice in the frame but that was as close as the River Hawks would get as Scranton posted its 16th straight win of the season. Lynch finished with nine points on 4-of-11 shooting, adding three rebounds, while senior
Olivia Brandt posted six points and a team-best seven rebounds.
First-year
Kenzie Selvaggi came off the bench to hit a pair of triples in missing her career-high by two points, and senior
Amalia Esposito posted five points and four rebounds as well. SU shot the ball well in the third quarter, hitting 46.6 percent from the floor but connected on just 23.4 percent (14-65) overall. Susquehanna led the second-chance point battled 15-10, and made 5-of-6 from the charity stripe.
Graduate student transfer Abby Anderson finished with a game-high 22 points on 8-of-10 shooting, going 6-of-7 from three-point land, adding 11 rebounds as well. Bridget Monaghan tallied 16 points and Maddie Hartnett contributed 10 points as well in the win. Scranton made 14 three-pointers on the night, shooting 56 percent from behind the three-point line.
