HAVERTOWN, PA (March 13, 2022) -- The Susquehanna University men's lacrosse team trailed 8-7 midway through the third quarter, but host Haverford College netted six of the game's final seven goals to earn a 14-8 non-conference victory over the River Hawks in action from Swan Field Sunday.
Haverford scored the game's opening goal but Susquehanna (2-4) netted two straight thanks to tallies from
Jack Gaillard followed by a man-up goal from
Steven Musser. Haverford would gain the momentum with five straight goals before Musser netted another man-up goal to make it 6-3 with 10:26 to go in the first half.
Susquehanna got goals from
Matthew Faggioli and
Chris Ciccarello before the halftime intermission to make if 8-5 at the break. After the teams returned to the field for the second half,
Ted Zaborowski netted a man-down goal followed by a
Kobi Buffa score to make it 8-7 Haverford with 7:19 to go in the third quarter.
The Fords would extend their lead back out to six goals thanks to a 5-0 run, powered by three goals by Matt Richards to make the score 13-7 with 8:53 remaining in the game. First-year
Brennan Lorence got one back with 8:01 to go in the fourth, but that was as close as SU would get as Haverford held on for the victory.
Gaillard finished with a team-high four points on a goal and three assists, adding three ground balls as well while Musser finished with two goals on two shots on goal. Zaborowski tallied a goal and an assist and three ground balls, and defender
Mike Nevins posted three ground balls and a caused turnover.
Junior goalkeeper
Jozef Korpics finished with 18 saves and five ground balls, while
Ryan Prum went 8-of-13 at the face-off dot while chalking up two ground balls.
Charlie Hayes and
Jared Tavernite each paced the River Hawks in the caused turnover department, as each forced a pair of Ford miscues.
Richards registered a game-high seven points on five goals and two assists for Haverford, while Blake Brinster also netted two goals and dished out four assists. Eric Dahlberg scored three goals and picked up nine ground balls, and Andy Tieso stopped eight shots in-between the pipes for HC.
