WILKES-BARRE, PA (March 21, 2022) -- The Susquehanna University women's lacrosse team scored nine first-quarter goals, rolling past host King's College 22-7 in action from McCarthy Stadium Monday afternoon. The contest was a make-up game from two previous cancellations due to snow in the Wilkes-Barre area.
The River Hawks (7-2) scored the first five goals over the first five minutes of the game, as three came from senior
Caroline Chase. Susquehanna talleid four more before the quarter break, as
Makenzy Backus started a run for the River Hawks capped by a goal from first-year
Liv Owen.
Susquehanna continued to pressure the Monarchs, taking a 12-3 into the locker room at halftime. The River Hawks would score five goals in both the third and fourth quarter, pulling away for their fourth straight victory.
Chase finished with a monster game of 12 points, finishing one shy of her personal-best with eight assists, adding four goals. Sophomore
Heather Riefenhauser finished with seven points on four goals and three assists, posting three ground balls and two caused turnovers, while Owen tallied three goals and three assists.
First-year
Allie Kutler posted a career-high three goals on six shots on goal, and Hanna McNamara tallied two goals and an assist. Backus scored a career-high three goals as well, and Homberg logged an all-around good game with two goals and six draw controls. Genovese also logged a goal and an assist.
Defenders
Chloe Pappalardo and
Katie Quackenboss each had a caused turnover in the win, while
Caitlin Harvey finished with two caused turnovers and five draw controls. In a funny mishap,
Claire Williams had to start the game in goal and played 10 seconds before handing things off to
Emmy Regan for the final 59:50 of the game.
Natasha Koslop tallied five points on three goals and two assists, picking up three draw controls, while first-year Allli Lindsay registered four points on three goals and and five draw controls.
