YORK, PA (April 27, 2022) -- Susquehanna University and York College combined for five home runs Wednesday afternoon in a non-conference contest, but the host Spartans scored in six of eight at-bats to earn a 26-7 win.
The River Hawks (14-18) took the lead in the top of the second inning, as
Chris Corrado singled down the left-field line to play
Tony Rossi. After Corrado stole second,
Brock Veit doubled to right-center field to bring around Corrado for the quick 2-0 lead.
The Spartans (18-16) came right back with seven runs in the bottom of the second, with the big blow coming on a grand slam by Austin Denlinger. The River Hawks came right back with two runs in the top half of the third, as
Kris Morrow touched off an opposite field shot to make it 7-4.
York pushed across four runs in the bottom of the third, but
Sean McCulloch crushed his first homer of the season to make it 11-6. That's as close as the River Hawks would get, as the Spartans tallied 13 runs over the next three frames to pull away.
McCulloch was 2-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored, while Rossi was 2-for-3 with two singles and a run. Corrado was 2-for-3 with a run scored and RBI, while Veit finished with two doubles.
Evan Knapp also doubled for SU, while
Joseph Healy posted his first collegiate hit while scoring once.
Danny Selby came off the bench to drive in a run with a double.
Kieran Dougherty tossed a clean run in relief, while
Ryan Redmond struck out three in his one inning of work.
Denlinger finished 3-for-6 with four runs, two homers and eight RBI in the win for YCP. Garrett Kile also was 2-for-3 with two walks and five runs scored, while Robby Elzinga went 3-for-5 with four RBI.
