SELINSGROVE, PA (May 4, 2022) – Amidst the weather challenges, the River Hawk men's tennis team finished it 2021-22 season with a 5-0 loss to Goucher College in Baltimore, MD at the Evelyn Dyke Schroedl '62 Tennis Center in the Landmark Conference Tournament semifinals.
Susquehanna (10-5, 5-2 Landmark) fell behind 3-0 after doubles. Senior
Emil Vyskocil put up a fight in the double's competition with partner
Henrik Sandstede at No. 1 adding two games to the score. The pair played an outstanding game and were topped by Brian Kane and Omosesan Adebamgbe.
Senior
Ethan Cooley added two games as well earning a momentum shift prior to a one-hour rain-delay. Cooley and partner sophomore
Tim Basta couldn't hold the shift as Angel Cerpa and Joshua Noel held the lead with an 8-2 victory.
Junior pairing
John Duncan and
Joshua Sanderson battled back and forth for points, but first-year pair Calis Nguyen and Jackson Beam found the empty spots on the court. Susquehanna's No. 2 doubles finished the season 6-5 going into their final season as a River Hawk.
Vyskocil and Sandstede attempted to hold their competitors in singles, but unfortunately fell to the No. 2 seed Gophers. With the completion of Sandstede's match, the remainder of the team stopped play as the Gophers will be advancing to the Landmark Conference Championship match.
Vyskocil and Cooley finished their impactful careers over the four years as River Hawks, as well as exchange student Stanstede. The group finished with an overall singles and doubles record of 102-59.
