River Hawk Women's Basketball Drops Goucher Wednesday

BALTIMORE, MD (January 25, 2023) -- The Susquehanna University women's basketball outscored host Goucher College 23-12 in the third quarter, pulling away for a 61-47 Landmark Conference win over the Gophers in action from the Decker Sports & Recreation Center. 

The River Hawks trailed early in the first quarter, but registered an 11-0 run over the last four minutes of the stanza to take a 14-9 lead into the second period. A triple from Kaitlyn Lynch pushed SU's lead up to eight early in the quarter, but the Gophers wouldn't go away as SU clinged to a 21-19 lead after 20 minutes of play, 

After the halftime stoppage, Susquehanna would take control as it led by as many as 14 on a lay-up by Isabella Schwabe with 1:15 to play in the period. SU would keep its double-figures advantage the rest of the contest, rolling to the 14-point victory. 

Lynch led the way for the River Hawks (7-11, 2-5 Landmark), posting her first career double-double with 18 points and a career-high 11 rebounds. Lynch would add three assists and three steals as well, while making all eight of her free throws on the night. 

Graduate student Olivia Brandt tallied 10 points, six rebounds, four assists, two blocks and a steal, while first-year Julia Pinckert stuffed the stat sheet with eight points, nine rebounds, four assists and a block. Sophomore Kenzie Selvaggi added seven points, while Schwabe came off the bench to register six points, seven boards and three blocks. 

First-year Julia Roth also totaled seven rebounds for Susquehanna, which finished 21-of-57 (36.8 percent) from the field on the contest. SU made all 14 of its free throws, marking the first time a River Hawk team has made all of its free throws in a game since January 5, 2019 at Goucher (2-2). 

Kyla Smith tallied 20 points for the Gophers, while Alexis Kuhlman also finished with nine points. Kyani Quarles led the squad with 12 rebounds, as Goucher pulled in 27 offensive rebounds on the night. Despite all of the extra chances, Goucher shot only 16.9 (12-71) from the floor in the loss. 

Susquehanna travels to No. 20 Elizabethtown College at 2 p.m. Saturday, January 28 in Elizabethtown, PA in more Landmark Conference action.
