Early Score Helps Women's Soccer Past Dickinson

CARLISLE, PA - Marley Sprenkel scored a goal in the third minute to help Susquehanna women's soccer beat Dickinson away on Wednesday night. Cierra Getz picked up the assist after her cross was headed home by Sprenkel, who scored her second goal of the season in the process.

The River Hawks burst out of the gate, taking the lead early on thanks to their number nine. Their goal came just 136 seconds after the whistle had first gone, and the River Hawks saw out the remaining 87 minutes to clinch their first road win of the season.

Emily Wertz led the team in shots with 4, two of which were on target. Sprenkel scored with her only shot and Getz rounded out the shooting on the night with an eighth minute effort that was put wide. Dickinson outshot the River Hawks 18-6 on the night, but were unable to break down the strong defending by the River Hawks' center-back pairing of Chloe Michaels and Olivia Haines, as well as goalkeeper Kayleigh Saboja, who made eight saves to keep the team's sixth shutout of the season.

The River Hawks committed five fouls to the Red Devils' six, while they took three corners compared to their hosts' six. All three corners for Susquehanna were delivered by Wertz.

The River Hawks completed their away schedule in style, picking up the win in a gritty contest that saw a late goal disallowed for the hosts due to offside in the 88th minute.

The River Hawks are still in postseason contention should they beat Drew in their regular season finale this coming Saturday, Oct. 28, as they look to continue in the right direction after this win moved them to 3-8-5. Nick Hoover's side will celebrate Senior Day against the Rangers as they wrap up their 2023 regular season.
