Box Score SELINSGROVE, PA - Gerrit Stech made nine saves, but was unable to prevent Susquehanna men's soccer from seeing out their season in defeat, as the River Hawks fell 1-0 to Drew on Senior Day on Saturday. His save total was a season high and the second-most of his career, which he, alongside
Adrian Dilascio and
Christian Bell, completed this afternoon.
The River Hawks had an early chance through
Clay Yannazzone, but they were unable to take it as he blasted high and wide on the volley.
Zach Polovitch also had an opportunity in the 16th minute, but he didn't catch his strike cleanly and fired straight at the Drew goalkeeper, who made five saves on the day.
The River Hawks committed 10 fouls on the day to Drew's 11, while the Rangers enjoyed an 11-5 edge on corner kicks, with seven of those coming in the second half.
Stech faced 30 total shots in the River Hawks' goal, ten of which were on target, making nine saves. Drew stopper Brandon Jachera faced seven shots, repelling all five that were on target.
Drew found their breakthrough in the 82nd minute, when Kevin Kiernan beat multiple River Hawks and passed to Nate Keller, who beat Stech in the bottom left corner and made it 1-0 late on.
The River Hawks fought hard for their equalizer, but were unable to find it as the game got scrappy in the final minutes, with
Calvin Paulick being shown the yellow card for Susquehanna in the 86th minute, with two Rangers cautioned in the 87th and 89th minutes respectively.
The defeat means the River Hawks complete their season at 3-10-3, one win better off than their 2-12-3 mark from a year ago. They finish their season with
Max Paczewski leading the team in goals, assists and points with 10, 3, and 23 respectively.Â
