BETHLEHEM, PA – With a Landmark Conference Tournament berth on the line, Susquehanna Volleyball traveled to Moravian University Saturday in their final Landmark Conference regular season matchup. After brisk wins in the first two sets by 25-16 and 25-17 scores, the River Hawks pulled out a comeback win in game three, 25-23, to reserve their spot in the conference tournament, which begins Tuesday, Nov. 7.
The final seeding will be determined when all Landmark play concludes this upcoming week, with the River Hawks in contention for the fifth or sixth seed as of Saturday evening. Before then SU has a Mid-Atlantic trip set for next weekend when they head down to Maryland and Virginia for matchups with Stevenson, Mary Washington, and Christopher Newport.
The first set featured a early lead from the River Hawks, as they jumped out to a quick 10-1 lead over the Greyhounds courtesy of several kills from
Stella Robinson and Samantha Kline. Moravian was never able to fully recover from the deficit, ultimately losing by a final score of 25-16. Set two started with a 4-0 lead for SU, but a quick five points from Moravian edged them ahead 5-4. Susquehanna continued to fall to a 12-7 deficit before creating an 18-5 run to close out set two with a final score of 25-17.
Susquehanna faced a determined Moravian team in the final set, who led for most of the match and appeared to extend the evening holding a 22-16 lead. After a sideout,
Callie Wince served the ball for Susquehanna, not giving it up until the River Hawks led 24-23, with
Emily Kowalski's kill clinching the sweep and Susquehanna's playoff bid.
For the second night in a row, the River Hawks' swinging was on point, delivering a .231 kill percentage with 43 kills and just 18 errors. Kowalski's final kill gave her the team lead with 11 kills, while
Sami Kline recorded ten kills with four total blocks, including one solo.
Keira Roach provided the lion's share of assists with 29, while tallying 12 digs and one service ace.
Jessica Sack finished with 17 digs, with
Amanda Gore dropping three service aces to go with seven kills. Wince tied for the team lead with Gore in service aces with three.
Susquehanna finishes conference play with a record of 5-4 and will be back on the road Friday to take on Stevenson University before traveling to Virginia to play #22 Mary Washington and Christopher Newport University to close out the regular season.
