Tournament-Bound Hawks End Regular Season with Mary Washington, Christopher Newport

FREDERICKSBURG, MD – The regular season for Susquehanna women's volleyball ended Saturday evening after a pair of matches at Mary Washington, playing the host Eagles to start and Christopher Newport. Both matches resulted in 3-0 defeats to a pair of teams that earned mentions in the AVCA National Rankings.

Saturday's matches marked the end of a heavy regular season for the River Hawks loaded with lengthy weekend tournament trips and contests against nationally-ranked competition. It will serve Susquehanna well heading into the Landmark Conference Tournament, with the ultimate goal of potentially displacing the number-one ranked and defending national champion Juniata. It begins Tuesday for Susquehanna, who holds the fifth seed in the tournament when they head back down to the Mid-Atlantic against fourth-seeded Catholic.

While the River Hawks had a great afternoon hitting with a .225 attack percentage on 33 kills and ten errors, the Eagles bested even these numbers at .316 percent on 39 kills and eight errors. UMW jumped out to a set-one victory at 25-18. Susquehanna led 4-0 to start the second set towards an 11-5 lead, but the Eagles stormed back to tie it up at 12-12. With SU ahead 16-15, SU swooped in for seven straight points towards a 25-20 victory. Susquehanna led again in set three 14-11 before UMW mounted another rally with six straight points and ten of the next 11 for a 25-21 win.

Emily Kowalski again led the team in kills with 11, while Brie Livezey had nine. Setter Keira Roach took in 24 assists, along with Callie Wince leading the team with 14 digs and a pair of service aces. Amanda Gore led the aces column for SU with three, while adding one block and four kills.

RV Christopher Newport 3, Susquehanna 0
The evening affair with CNU produced a more one-sided effort as the Captains totaled a staggering .412 hitting percentage on 41 kills and five errors, compared to SU's .071 on 17 kills and 11 errors. CNU took all three sets by 25-11, 25-11, and 25-16 contests. Emily Kowalski again led SU with seven kills, while Keira Roach had nine assists and eight digs from Valerie Stoltz.
