ANNAPOLIS, MD (November 8, 2023) – The Susquehanna women's basketball team got their 2023-24 campaign underway with a fantastic learning opportunity for the young squad, as they traveled to Maryland to face a Division I opponent in Navy. The exhibition saw the hosts claim a 78-37 victory, but also saw many of the new River Hawks get valuable game time to start out the season.
One of those new faces, first-year guard Annie Greek, made an impression in her collegiate debut, leading the team in scoring with seven points. She added an assist, and did well from the foul line, going three for four on free throws.
The sophomore duo of Julia Pinckert and Julia Roth, who will look to be key starters once again after strong debut seasons, followed behind Greek with six points each. Roth also led the team in steals with three, while Pinckert had two. Zoie Maffei, another first-year player, made the starting lineup and led the team in rebounds with six.
Greek was joined by multiple fellow first-years getting their first collegiate points, with Allison Bono, Mackenzie Yuhas, and Elke Staver all making it into the scoring column.
SU's first competitive fixture of the season will come in just over a week, as the River Hawks will get to open things up at home, welcoming Marywood in to O.W. Houts Gymnasium on Thursday, November 16 for a 7 pm tipoff.
