SELINSGROVE, PA (February 4, 2023) -- The Susquehanna University women's basketball team shot a season-high 59.6 percent Saturday afternoon, powering past visiting Drew University 85-63 in Landmark Conference action from O.W. Houts Gymnasium.
The near-60 percent shooting from the floor was the highest in at least the last 20 seasons, as the squad fired a blistering 26-of-37 (70.2 percent) on shots from inside the three-point line. The River Hawks were just as effective from downtown as well, making 40 percent (8-20) from three-land.
The hot shooting starting from the on-set, as Susquehanna made eight of its first 14 shots in the opening stanza to take a 22-13 lead after the first 10 minutes. Susquehanna and Drew were tied at 12, but a 10-1 run to end the stanza gave the River Hawks their nine-point edge going to the second quarter.
Susquehanna (8-13, 3-7 Landmark) continued to shoot the lights out, continuing to lead by nine with 3:24 to go in the first half. From that point,
Lauren Klein started a 16-0 SU run to finish the opening 20 minutes up 45-21. During that spell the River Hawks went 5-for-6 including make all four three-pointers as senior
Kaitlyn Lynch scored eight points in the run.
After halftime, Susquehanna kept the offensive explosion going with 23 more points in the third quarter, leading by as many as 35 points in rolling to the 85-63 home conference victory. First-year forward
Julia Roth was dominant inside Saturday, making all but one of her 12 field goals en route to a game-high 25 points.
Lynch finished with 23 points, five rebounds and three assists, and fifth-year
Olivia Brandt tallied 12 points on 5-of-6 shooting.
Kenzie Selvaggi poured in eight points and grabbed five boards, while first-year
Julia Pinckert dished out nine assists in addition to her team-high eight rebounds.
Joey Meyers posted 22 points and nine rebounds in the loss for Drew (14-6, 5-5 Landmark). The River Hawks forced Drew to shoot just 31.3 percent from the field on Saturday, including making only 25 percent from behind the three-point arc.
Susquehanna heads to Juniata College Wednesday, February 8 at 7 p.m. for more conference play.
