Women's Lax Goes Loco in Lyco for 20-9 Victory

WILLIAMSPORT, PA. (March 22, 2023) – Susquehanna University women's lacrosse made their return up north a successful one Wednesday night, making the short trip to Lycoming and coming out with a 20-9 win. The River Hawks improve to 6-3 entering their first Landmark match this Saturday against Drew at home at 1 P.M.

The River Hawks soared to victory with the help of a nine-goal second quarter, including a run where they outscored Lyco 7-1, and four players netting hat tricks in Caitlin Harvey, Allie Kutler, Heather Riefenhauser, and Kelsey Homberg, with all but Kutler providing one assist. Liv Owen led the contest with six points on two goals and four assists as Nikki Genovese accrued four points on one goal and three assists.

Kutler and Owen got the scoring started on the night with early first quarters to take a 2-0 lead. The Warriors fought back with two of their own before the River Hawks delivered three straight from Homberg, Harvey, and Hannah McNamara. The first quarter scoring ended when Lyco's Katie Macguire scored on a free position to cut the lead down to 5-3 after one.

Riefenhauser and Kutler bumped SU's lead up to four with quick strikes to make it 7-3 with 13:35 left before halftime, but Lycoming mounted a rally with three consecutive scores over the next three minutes at 7-6 with 10:19 to go in the second. The River Hawks responded with a 7-1 run that began with three straight goals from McNamara, Andrus, and Riefenhauser. After a Warriors score to make it 10-7 with 6:04 to go, SU didn't let it interrupt them from netting four straight via Riefenhauser, Harvey, Owen, and Genovese.

Warriors goals ended the second quarter and opened the third, which served as their last goals of the day as Susquehanna tallied off the next six scores with three in each period, including one from Kim Nagengast to start the fourth and get her on the goals list.
Emmy Regan presided in net for the first half, offering up two saves with eight goals allowed before giving way to Aerin O'Brien, who also posted a pair of saves with one goal allowed.

Susquehanna overwhelmed Lycoming in shots 41-19, including 35-13 in shots on goal, and won 23 draw controls to the Warriors' 10. Another defensive highlight included the River Hawks going a perfect 13-for-13 on clears.
