STEVENSON 7, SUSQUEHANNA 4
Stevenson's Marissa Heuer held Susquehanna hitless through the first three innings, while the Mustangs brought the bats to put up a two-spot in the second and one run in the fourth for a 3-0 lead.
Erin Bean led off the fourth and became the River Hawks' first base runner of the day with a walk.
Meredith Pavlik then reached first off an error at second and a
Ashley Warner's single loaded the bases.
Hailey Kaba's at bat produced three runs, the first coming on a passed ball to score Bean, followed by her two-RBI single to left center to tie the game at 3-3.
Pitcher
Hannah Foust took over in the circle for
Amanda Amerman to start the fifth, with Amerman giving up two earned runs on eight hits with four strikeouts and two walks. The Mustangs' on-base pedigree continued as they loaded the bases to start the frame with Rivers Edwards pushing a go-ahead single to center to make it 4-3, though the River Hawks got the force out at third. Foust worked out of the jam with a strikeout and groundout to short to escape further harm.
The River Hawks rallied in the bottom of the sixth when
Morgan Henry drove in pinch runner
Brianna Jones from second on an RBI double to tie the game back up at four, only for Stevenson to put up three runs in the top of the seventh. These runs came off a pair of singles and a sacrifice fly. Susquehanna was set down in order in the bottom half.
Foust was handed the defeat to drop to 4-6 on the year, allowing four earned runs on six hits with one strikeout and six walks. Stevenson finished with 14 hits, led by Maddie Bosley having a 4-for-5 day with one RBI. On the home team's side Susquehanna had five hits, with Warner going 2-for-3 and scoring one run, while Henry went 1-for-3 with a double and Kaba 1-for-3 with two ribbies.
SUSQUEHANNA 3, STEVENSON 1
Three Susquehanna runs in the second was all that was needed in the swift nightcap, as
Morgan Henry drove in
Hailey Kaba for the 1-0 lead. Henry moved over to second on a wild pitch, setting up
Kassidy Smith's RBI single to center. With
Brianna Jones' single moving Smith to third,
Erin Bean reached on an error to second to bring in Smith for the third run of the inning.
Jones took the circle for the River Hawks in game two, giving up just one earned run in the third off an RBI single and allowing six hits with one strikeout and a pair of walks. Stevenson made a late run in the seventh, loading the bases with one out, but two great defensive plays by Susquehanna closed the door to take the win. The second out was made in foul territory as first game's hit machine Maddie Bosley sent a curling pop up down third base that a running
Emily Deitch snagged to get the River Hawks one out closer. The final play came in more dramatic fashion as Jordan Fangman drilled one to right center, but the sprinting
Hailey Kaba made a running one-handed grab to end the ballgame.
Both sides tallied six hits, with all of Susquehanna's accounting for singles. Henry's single produced one RBI, as did Smith's, while Bean also had one RBI.
